The God Who Repairs from the Inside Out

Every day, each cell in your body sustains tens of thousands of instances of DNA damage — from sunlight, from metabolic byproducts, from the simple wear of being alive. Left unrepaired, that damage would be catastrophic. But God built something remarkable into the fabric of our cells.

Specialized enzymes constantly patrol your genetic code. When they find a damaged section, they don't discard the entire strand. They snip out the broken piece, fill in the gap with the correct sequence, and seal it shut. The cell is made whole again. Tomas Lindahl, who won the 2015 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his pioneering work on DNA repair mechanisms, helped reveal just how relentless this restoration process is — running thousands of times a day in every single cell, without us ever knowing.

Forgiveness works the same way in the human soul.

When someone wrongs us, the damage is real. We don't pretend it never happened. But forgiveness is the decision to cut away the bitterness without discarding the whole relationship — or ourselves. It is the refusal to let one wound define the entire strand of our story.

Paul wrote, "Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you" (Colossians 3:13). The Almighty doesn't throw us away when sin damages us. He repairs us from the inside out.
