The God Who Unfolds in Time

When NASA launched the James Webb Space Telescope on Christmas Day 2021, the world held its breath. After twenty-five years of development, countless delays, and ten billion dollars, the most powerful telescope ever built was finally in space. But the waiting was not over.

Over the next six months, Webb had to unfold. Its massive sunshield opened one careful layer at a time. Its gold-plated mirrors locked into position with nanometer precision. Its instruments cooled to nearly absolute zero. Engineers could not rush a single step. One premature move would have rendered the entire mission worthless.

And then, in July 2022, the first images arrived — galaxies formed just after the dawn of creation, light that had traveled thirteen billion years to reach us. The pictures were breathtaking precisely because the process had been unhurried.

There is a sermon in that telescope. We live in an instant-download world, and we want God to work at broadband speed. But the Lord who spoke galaxies into existence is never in a hurry. James reminds us to "let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing" (James 1:4).

God is unfolding something in your life right now. It may feel like delay. It may look like nothing is happening. But the Almighty is cooling, calibrating, and positioning every detail with a precision you cannot yet see. Do not rush the unfolding. What He is preparing to reveal will take your breath away.
