The God Who Wrote Repair Into Our DNA

Every single day, each cell in your body sustains tens of thousands of DNA lesions — damage from ultraviolet light, metabolic byproducts, and simple copying errors. Tens of thousands of wounds, in every one of your thirty-seven trillion cells, every single day. By any reasonable calculation, we should fall apart.

But we don't. Because God built repair into the very fabric of our biology.

In 2015, scientists Tomas Lindahl, Paul Modrich, and Aziz Sancar received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for mapping the molecular machinery that stitches our DNA back together — base by base, strand by strand, thousands of times every hour. These repair enzymes do not wait for catastrophic failure. They patrol constantly, finding breaks and mending them before the damage can spread.

Here is what strikes me: God did not design us for a world without damage. He designed us to heal in the middle of it.

That is perseverance written into our molecules. And it mirrors something Paul wrote to the church in Corinth: "We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair" (2 Corinthians 4:8).

You may feel today like the damage is winning — the diagnosis, the betrayal, the grief that will not lift. But the same God who encoded relentless repair into every cell of your body has not stopped His restoring work in your spirit. He is mending what is broken, strand by strand, even now.
