The Golden Age: Earth Transformed into Zion's Likeness
"They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain" (Isaiah 11:9). The prophets have sung of a golden age, the saints have prayed for one, and the Bible distinctly teaches that one will come. This passage unveils the characteristics of that "good time coming."
First, the whole earth shall become the spiritual realization of what Mount Zion was merely a symbol. Ancient Zion represented two great ideas: man's meeting-place with God, and entire consecration to worship. In the last days, these will be fully realized. The Shechinah will gleam everywhere, lighting every social circle and radiating from every institution. Every spot will become sacred to worship—in handicraft, commerce, politics, and literature alike.
Second, the whole earth shall be freed from injustice and violence. "They shall not hurt" means no unkind word, no ungenerous deed, no mean conduct shall mar human relations. Every person shall deal with his fellow with the loving tenderness of a brother. "They shall not destroy"—no destruction of property, reputation, or life. Wars shall cease entirely.
Third, the earth shall be flooded with Christianity "as the waters cover the sea." Full as waters roll through Mediterranean channels, Christianity will flow through every district of human life. This universal diffusion reveals that Christianity is essentially pacific—the panacea for the world's woes. The knowledge of the Lord shall cover the earth, and Messiah's reign shall establish lasting peace.
