The Grace of Recalculating
If you have ever made a wrong turn while using Google Maps, you know what happens next. There is no lecture. No guilt trip. No popup that says, "You had one job." The screen simply pauses, and a calm voice says one word: "Recalculating."
Within seconds, the software has already charted a new route from exactly where you are — not from where you should have been, not from where you started, but from the precise location of your mistake. Google Maps does not require you to drive back to the original route before it will help you again. It meets you in the wrong turn and builds a new path forward.
That is a portrait of grace.
When the prodigal son came stumbling home reeking of pig slop, the Father did not say, "Go back to the beginning and try again." He met the boy on the road. He recalculated from the far country and charted a course straight to the banquet table.
God's grace does not demand that we retrace every wrong turn. He does not wait at the place where we wandered off, arms folded, until we find our way back. He comes to us — in the ditch, at the dead end, on the road we were never supposed to be on — and He says, "I can work with this. Let me show you the way home."
Wherever you are this morning, God is already recalculating.
