The Heart That Rebuilds Itself

In 2011, researchers at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden made a stunning discovery. Using carbon-14 dating — the same method used to date ancient artifacts — they proved that the human heart generates new cells throughout a person's lifetime. Dr. Jonas Frisen and his team demonstrated that roughly one percent of heart cells are replaced each year. By the time you reach fifty, nearly half of your heart is not the heart you were born with.

Think about that.
