The Hidden Router
Think about the Wi-Fi router in your home. It is probably the most important device you own — every phone, laptop, tablet, and smart speaker depends on it completely. Yet where does it sit? Tucked behind a bookshelf. Mounted in a closet. Shoved in a corner where nobody looks.
Your router serves every device in the house equally and faithfully, twenty-four hours a day. It never demands center stage. It never flashes a notification saying, "You are welcome for that video call." When it is doing its job perfectly, nobody notices it at all. The only time anyone mentions the router is when something goes wrong.
In Philippians 2:3-4, Paul writes, "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others."
True humility works like that router. It does not crave visibility. It does not keep a tally of its service. It simply shows up, connects others to what they need, and finds its deepest purpose in faithful, quiet work.
The next time you walk past that little blinking box in the corner of your house, let it remind you: the most essential work in the Kingdom of God often happens where nobody is watching. Humility is not thinking less of yourself — it is thinking of yourself less, so you can pour your energy into connecting others to what matters most.
