The Hobbit Who Was Meant to Carry It

In The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, there is a quiet moment deep in the Mines of Moria where Frodo Baggins turns to Gandalf and whispers, "I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened." Gandalf pauses, then answers with words that have echoed through millions of hearts: "So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

Frodo did not choose his burden. He was a small, ordinary hobbit from a comfortable village. He had no training for the journey ahead, no sword skill, no army behind him. And yet the Ring came to him — not to the mighty warrior Aragorn, not to the powerful wizard, but to the smallest and most unlikely person in the room.

That is how the Almighty so often works. He does not call the equipped. He equips the called. Jeremiah protested that he was too young. Moses insisted he could not speak. Gideon was hiding in a winepress. And yet each one carried a purpose that had been written into their lives before they ever recognized it.

You may feel small today. You may wish your particular burden had landed on someone else's shoulders. But perhaps, like Frodo, you were meant to carry it — not because you are strong, but because faithfulness matters more than strength.
