The Hobbit Who Was Meant to Find It
In J.R.R. Tolkien's The Fellowship of the Ring, there is a moment when Frodo, overwhelmed by the burden he carries, says to Gandalf, "I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened." Gandalf's reply has echoed through decades of readers' hearts: "So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."
Gandalf then tells Frodo something even more striking — that Bilbo was meant to find the Ring, and therefore Frodo was meant to have it. Not by accident. Not by luck. By a purpose deeper than any of them could fully understand.
Many of us have stood exactly where Frodo stood. We look at the weight we carry — the diagnosis, the difficult calling, the responsibility we never asked for — and we whisper, "I wish this had never come to me." That is an honest prayer, and the Almighty is not offended by it.
But the God who numbers the hairs on your head and charts the courses of stars did not hand you this season by accident. You were meant for this moment. Not because the burden is light, but because the One who assigned it walks beside you through it.
Your only decision is what to do with the time you have been given. Choose faithfully.
