The Inauguration No One Could Stop
On January 20, 2021, Washington D.C. looked like a fortress. Twenty-five thousand National Guard troops lined the streets. Razor wire topped temporary fencing around the Capitol. Just two weeks earlier, the building had been breached by a violent mob. Security experts warned of continued threats. Cable news anchors asked openly whether a peaceful transfer of power was even possible.
And yet, at precisely 11:48 a.m., Joe Biden placed his hand on a five-inch-thick family Bible and took the oath of office. The inauguration happened. Not because every enemy had been eliminated, but because the authority of the office transcended the chaos surrounding it. The seat of power was occupied regardless of the opposition.
This is the stunning picture the Almighty paints in Psalm 110. "Sit at my right hand," Yahweh declares, "until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet." Notice the posture — sitting, not scrambling. The Messiah rules not after the enemies are defeated but while they are being subdued. His authority does not wait for perfect conditions. He reigns in the midst of opposition, holding an eternal priesthood that no rebellion can revoke.
Whatever opposition you face this week — illness, betrayal, financial pressure — your King is not pacing the hallway. He is seated. His reign is not pending. It is present, unshakable, and forever after the order of Melchizedek.
