The Insulin Discovery
Before 1921, a diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes was a death sentence. The body, unable to produce insulin, could not unlock its own cells to receive glucose — the very fuel it needed to survive. Sugar flooded the bloodstream while the cells starved. The only treatment was a brutal starvation diet that bought months at best. Patients wasted away, trapped in bodies that could not feed themselves.
Then Frederick Banting and Charles Best, working in a small Toronto laboratory, isolated insulin. When they injected it into fourteen-year-old Leonard Thompson at Toronto General Hospital in January 1922, the effect was almost miraculous. His blood sugar dropped. Color returned to his face. A boy who had been days from death walked out of that hospital.
The glucose had always been there. The nourishment was circulating through his body the entire time. What Leonard needed was not more effort or a stricter diet. He needed something from outside himself to unlock what was already present.
Sin works like that deficiency. God's grace, His love, His purpose for your life — it is all around you, flowing through every moment. But sin locks the door of the human heart, and no amount of striving can open it from the inside. Christ is the insulin of the soul. His sacrifice unlocks what we could never access on our own.
You do not need to starve yourself into righteousness. The cure has already been discovered. Receive it.
