The King's Highway: Choosing the Tested Path
"We will go by the King's highway"—these words carry the weight of covenant choice. The Israelites faced temptation: the fruit of fields, the fascination of byways, the sparkling water of wells. Yet they resolved to keep the hard-beaten thoroughfares, the paths worn by generations of faithful travelers, the roads running north and south through the land. This resolution extends beyond geography into spiritual territory.
For the nation, Israel pronounced this commitment unanimously. Whole nations must stand for Elohim as individuals do; numbers never diminish sin's gravity. The Church, as Adonai's body, must embody this same devotion to law and order, walking by the King's highway.
Yet the declaration applies most intimately to individuals. The young Christian beginning life's journey—thrice happy is he who says with dogged determination: "We will go by the King's highway." The penitent, too, must resolve to walk this path, turning from byways toward restoration.
This individual highway consists of two inseparable elements: morals drawn from Elohim's commandments, showing our duty to Adonai and man; and faith—a firm basis of doctrine upon which the soul may lean in distress. Ethics alone prove insufficient. We do not walk this path alone; we are cheered by the examples of all the saints whose names are written in the Lamb's Book of Life. The King's highway leads ultimately to the city of the Great King.
