The Leap He Couldn't See
In Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, there is a scene that has stayed with moviegoers for decades. Indiana Jones stands at the edge of a vast chasm, a bottomless gorge stretching before him with no visible way across. His father is dying. The only hope lies on the other side. His journal reads simply: "Only in the leap from the lion's head will he prove his worth."
Every rational instinct screams not to step forward. The gap is too wide. The fall is certain. But with his father's life hanging in the balance, Indiana closes his eyes, lifts his foot, and steps into what looks like empty air. His boot lands on solid stone — an ancient bridge, perfectly camouflaged against the canyon walls. It was there the whole time. He just couldn't see it.
This is what trust in the Almighty often feels like. He asks us to step forward when we cannot see the path. The diagnosis comes back uncertain. The job disappears. The marriage feels like it is unraveling. And God whispers, "Step forward. I have already built the bridge."
Proverbs 3:5 tells us to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and lean not on our own understanding. Notice it does not say the path will be visible. It says the path will be there.
The bridge was always under Indiana's feet. He only had to trust enough to take the step. So it is with us. God does not ask us to see the whole road. He asks us to take the next step and trust that He has already gone ahead.
