The Leap in the Dark
In Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, there is a moment that has stayed with audiences for decades. Indiana Jones stands at the edge of a seemingly bottomless chasm. His father is dying. The only way forward is across — but there is no visible bridge. His journal simply reads, "Only in the leap from the lion's head will he prove his worth." Every instinct screams to stay put. The abyss yawns before him. But Indy closes his eyes, lifts his foot, and steps out into nothing.
His boot lands on solid stone — a bridge perfectly camouflaged against the canyon wall, invisible until he stood upon it.
This is what trust looks like in the life of faith. Not a feeling of certainty, but a decision to step forward when we cannot see where our foot will land. The writer of Hebrews tells us that faith is "the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Trust is not the absence of fear — Indiana Jones was terrified. Trust is choosing to move forward anyway because we believe the One who calls us forward is faithful.
Perhaps you are standing at your own chasm today — a diagnosis, a broken relationship, a future you cannot see. The Almighty does not always show us the bridge before we step. But He has never let one of His children fall. Take the step.
