The Marriage Supper of the Lamb: Love Made Perfect
Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb (Revelation 19:9). The title "Lamb" applied to Christ appears nowhere else in Scripture save John's Gospel—this is no accident. Our Lord Jesus would have us recognize Him in heaven as the same Jesus who died for us upon the Cross, bearing the marks of redemptive sacrifice even in His exaltation.
Yet at this supper, Christ assumes the character of Bridegroom without surrendering that of Lamb. This feast represents the consummation of all His wishes, the full reward of His labour and sufferings. The Church has yearned for it since His ascension, crying "Come, Lord Jesus, come quickly."
Why does this hour matter so profoundly? Because here love reaches its perfection. Our present love for Christ—however sincere—remains fractured by earthly cares and the distance of an unseen Object. We struggle to fully grasp what we have never beheld. Even in our finest moments, we sense we only half-love our Lord.
At the marriage supper, this changes utterly. We shall see Him in recognizable form; our souls, enlarged and perfected, will finally feel capacious enough to contain the love He deserves. That banquet will be love's triumph—the exalted Saviour demonstrating to all creation His love reaching "to the utmost bound love can go," while we respond with fervour, gratitude, and adoration entirely new even to heaven itself.
