The Master Key: Access to God's Treasuries Through Christ
By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand.—Romans 5:2
Charles Spurgeon offered this vivid illustration: There are many locks in a house, each with different keys, but one master-key opens all. Similarly, Adonai possesses many treasuries and secrets shut from carnal minds, yet he who walks in fellowship with Jesus holds the master-key admitting him to all covenant blessings—even to the very heart of God. Through the Well-beloved, we access God Himself, heaven, and every secret of the Lord.
In Romans 5, Paul describes the riches of Divine grace—how free, full, and comprehensive is the gift of Elohim. This grace is not merely nominal but operative and communicative. While God displays His almighty power in creation and His wisdom in adorning planets, He reserves His supreme grace (charis) for ruined mankind. This is where His kindness has fullest play.
"This grace wherein we stand" denotes not a casual, evanescent feeling but a settled condition wrought by abounding mercy. It comprises three dimensions: First, peace and favor with God—when justification removes condemnation, the fear of wrath yields to heartfelt peace. Second, Divine influence—the Holy Ghost with royal finger raises the soul from death of sin to righteousness, continually adorning it with the image of the heavenly. Third, communion with God—the needy creature possesses free access to the Giver of all good, ransacking the storehouse of grace. No such temple of prayer exists elsewhere in the universe.
