The Mercy Written Into Every Cell

In 2015, Tomas Lindahl shared the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for a discovery that had puzzled him for decades. He found that our DNA is astonishingly fragile — every single day, each cell in your body suffers tens of thousands of molecular injuries. Ultraviolet light, metabolic byproducts, simple chemical instability — the code of life is under constant assault.
