The Mirror That Took Twenty Years to Polish
When NASA launched the James Webb Space Telescope in 2021, the world held its breath. The telescope's primary mirror is made of eighteen individual hexagonal segments, each one ground and polished over years to a precision of one ten-thousandth the width of a human hair. Here is the remarkable part: no two segments are identical. Each carries a slightly different curvature, because each one reflects light from a different angle. If you swapped two segments, the whole telescope would blur. If you removed even one, the image of the cosmos would be compromised.
Together, those eighteen uniquely shaped mirrors combine to show us galaxies forming at the edge of time — the first light of creation itself.
I think God works the same way. Ephesians 2:10 tells us we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works that He prepared in advance for us to do. You were not mass-produced. The Almighty ground and shaped your experiences, your gifts, your wounds, and your wonder with a specificity that no one else carries. Your curvature is yours alone.
And like those mirrors, your purpose only comes into full focus when you take your place alongside others in the body of Christ. You were never meant to capture the whole image by yourself. You were shaped to reflect one irreplaceable angle of the glory of God.
So if you have been wondering whether your life matters, consider this: the Creator of the universe spent years polishing a mirror just to catch one angle of light. How much more carefully has He shaped you?
