The Nine-Day Flight
In 2007, scientists from the U.S. Geological Survey attached a satellite tag to a bar-tailed godwit they called E7. What they recorded astonished the world. This bird — weighing barely a pound — launched from the mudflats of Alaska and flew nonstop across the Pacific Ocean to New Zealand. No rest. No food. No land beneath her for nine straight days and 7,200 miles of open water.
Here is what strikes me most: once E7 left the coast of Alaska, there was no turning back. She had passed the point where she had enough fuel to return. Every wingbeat carried her deeper over an ocean that offered no place to land. She could only go forward — trusting the magnetic compass God had written into her cells, trusting the body the Creator had designed to carry her.
We know seasons like that. Seasons where the familiar shore has disappeared behind us and the new one has not yet appeared. Where the only option is to keep moving through the uncertainty, trusting that the One who launched us into this journey has already engineered everything we need to complete it.
The Almighty does not ask us to trust Him because the path is visible. He asks us to trust Him because He is the One who built the compass inside us — and He has never lost a single bird over the water.
