The Overcomer's Throne: Victory Through Christ's Example
"To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with Me in My throne." This promise assumes a threefold conflict. First, you must contend against yourself—the main battle rages within your own heart, where affections struggle for dominion. Second, the world allies with your inner weakness, turning even human kindness into temptation. Third, behind both stands your great adversary, the devil, watchful when you drowse, plotting when you are unsuspicious, bending his bow when you expose your breast.
Yet Christ offers a stimulus to overcome. This promise guarantees at minimum your entrance into the immediate presence of your Lord. But it declares far more: "I will grant to sit with Me in My throne." You shall share in the very honours which invest your adorable Head. Most precious still—"in His throne" you find what this wide world cannot provide: inviolable rest and eternal repose.
Your Captain does not lead you to warfare as a stranger. Every foe you face, He has already met and conquered in a degree of aggravation you cannot suffer. Consider His example: He passed through every temptation which can assail you. His victory becomes the pledge of yours, for His strength is your strength. Your only adversaries are His vanquished assailants. The ascended, victorious, crowned, and almighty Saviour calls you to imitate and reproduce His triumph.
