The Pacemaker Within
Nestled in the upper right chamber of your heart is a cluster of roughly ten thousand cells called the sinoatrial node. It is smaller than a grain of rice. And yet this microscopic bundle sets the rhythm for every heartbeat you will ever have.
Cardiologists call it the heart's natural pacemaker. Without instruction from the brain, without any external signal, these cells fire an electrical impulse approximately one hundred thousand times a day. They don't pump blood. They don't filter toxins. They don't carry oxygen. They do one thing: they keep the beat.
What happens when these cells lose their purpose? The condition is called sick sinus syndrome, and when the sinoatrial node malfunctions, the entire heart falls into chaos — irregular rhythms, dangerous pauses, a body that cannot sustain itself.
Purpose works the same way in the human soul. God has placed within each of us a calling as specific as those pacemaker cells. You may feel small. Your role may seem invisible to everyone around you. But when you live out the purpose God designed for you, everything around you finds its rhythm.
Paul wrote, "For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do" (Ephesians 2:10). You were not made to do everything. You were made to do something — and the whole body of Christ keeps its beat because you do.
