The Passion of the Christ: Christ Trusted the Father Completely - Christocentric (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Imagine a young boy named David, standing on a sun-drenched baseball field, his heart racing as he grips the bat tightly. It's the championship game, and the crowd is buzzing with anticipation. With each swing, he dreams of hitting the ball into the outfield, of bringing home the victory for his team. But just as the pitcher winds up, a wave of doubt crashes over him. He remembers the countless times he struck out, the moments of embarrassment, the fear of letting his teammates down.
In that moment, David looks to the stands and spots his father, a figure of unwavering support who has always believed in him, even when he faltered. The father’s steady gaze reflects love and assurance. Suddenly, the weight of self-doubt shifts as David chooses to trust. He takes a deep breath, recalling the words his father often spoke: "Trust yourself, but more importantly, trust me." The pitcher releases the ball, and in that split second, David surrenders his fear. He swings with all he has, and the crack of the bat resounds like a divine affirmation.
This is the essence of Gethsemane. Jesus, much like David, faced the unbearable weight of what lay ahead—His heart quaked at the thought of the cross. "Let this cup pass," He cried, yet in His deepest anguish, He turned to the Father with a heart full of trust: “Not my will, but yours.” In that pivotal moment, He embodied Proverbs 3:5-6, acknowledging the Father in all His ways, and like David, He found direction through surrender.
In Christ, we see the ultimate example of trust—a trust that leads us from despair to hope, from death to resurrection. To follow Him is to embrace that same journey of surrender, where we find not only our path but the very wisdom of God. So, as we navigate our own fears and uncertainties, let us lean into the trust that Christ exemplified, knowing that the Father is always directing our steps toward the promise of new life.
