The Patch That Was Already Waiting
In May 2017, the WannaCry ransomware attack swept across 150 countries in a single weekend. Hospitals lost access to patient records. Businesses watched helplessly as their files encrypted before their eyes. Entire systems were held hostage, frozen, locked behind a demand for payment.
But here is what haunted cybersecurity experts most: Microsoft had already released the fix. Security patch MS17-010, issued two months before the attack, closed the exact vulnerability WannaCry exploited. Every system that had accepted the update stood untouched while the world burned around it. The healing was already available. It simply had not been applied.
There is a spiritual truth here that should stop us in our tracks. The healing we desperately need — for our shame, our grief, our stubborn brokenness — is not something God is still developing. It was released at Calvary. The remedy predates the wound. Before addiction ever locked you out of your own life, before bitterness encrypted every good memory, before fear held your joy for ransom, the patch was already waiting.
And here is the grace that still makes me marvel: when WannaCry hit, Microsoft did something extraordinary. They released an emergency patch even for Windows XP — a system they had officially stopped supporting years earlier. The Almighty does the same. He extends healing to the people the world has written off, the ones everyone else has given up on.
The fix is available. Will you apply it?
