The Pleasant Paths of Wisdom and Faith in God
Wisdom's ways are appointed by an infinitely tender Father for His covenant children. The path toward Mount Zion, though it might contain hardship, remains the way of safety—and Heaven opens its doors here. A peaceful mind resting in God's love, a conscience sprinkled with the blood of atonement, a will lying passive in the Father's hands: these are foretastes of glory, little beams of the future day where night shall never come.
The paths of faith prove most happy because faith looks to Jesus for wisdom—not mere wisdom, but the wisdom of tender sympathy. Faith rests upon Christ for complete and perfect righteousness, for sanctification, and for glorification. It requires wisdom to discern the paths of wisdom.
Consider the pleasantness of specific exchanges: from worldly thoughts to contemplation of God and heavenly things; from obstinate self-confidence to penitential sense of sin with hope of forgiveness founded on Christ's sacrifice; from self-indulgence to self-denial; from negligence and hypocrisy to active service in God's ways; from selfishness and cruelty to benevolence toward mankind; from earthly citizenship to citizenship in Heaven, interested in Adonai's eternal kingdom.
The testimony of God's saints confirms these paths are pleasant and peaceful. Most importantly, the Lord Jesus Christ has gone before us in these very paths, making them safe, sanctified, and truly blessed.
