The Political Division & Unity Challenge - Story
In our current landscape, where political division often feels as sharp as a knife, we find ourselves grappling with our call as people of faith to respond with wisdom and grace. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed, yet Scripture offers us a guiding light. Let me share a story that illustrates this truth.
Imagine a small town, once vibrant with unity, now split down the middle over political issues. Friends who used to gather for barbecues now avoid one another, conversations stilted and heavy with unspoken words. One day, a devastating storm swept through the area, uprooting trees and flooding homes. In the aftermath, the town came together – not as Republicans or Democrats, but simply as neighbors.
Amidst the debris, an elderly woman named Ruth, known for her unyielding spirit and depth of faith, stood at her front door, surveying the damage. She saw a neighbor, Tom, struggling to clear fallen branches from his yard. Despite their past disagreements, Ruth felt a prompting in her heart. With a deep breath, she stepped outside, armed with a shovel and a willingness to serve.
As she approached Tom, she remembered the wisdom of Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight." Instead of letting her pride or past grievances dictate her actions, Ruth chose to lean into faith.
