The Power of Gentleness - Story
Not long ago, I witnessed a moment that took my breath away. A young mother was in a crowded park with her little boy, who was playing joyfully, darting between swings and slides. In the excitement, he stumbled and fell, skinning his knee. The moment he hit the ground, a wave of panic washed over him. He looked around, his eyes wide with fear.
Then I saw her—the mother, radiating gentleness. She rushed to him, her expression a mixture of love and concern. Instead of scolding him for being reckless, she knelt down, cradled his face in her hands, and whispered words of comfort. “It’s okay, sweetheart. I’m here. Let’s clean it up together.” That gentle touch, the softness in her voice, transformed the boy's fear into trust.
This simple act reminded me of Psalm 23, where David speaks of the Lord as our Shepherd, guiding us with gentleness. “He leads me beside still waters; He restores my soul.” Like that mother, God doesn’t chastise us for our failures; instead, He meets us in our mess, offering healing and hope.
Through her obedience to love, that mother not only soothed her son’s pain but also taught him a powerful lesson about faith. In our spiritual growth, we often stumble and fall, but it’s in those moments of gentleness—both from God and through His people—that true transformation occurs. When we allow gentleness to guide our interactions, we not only find our purpose but also become instruments of divine grace in a world that desperately needs it.
