The Power of Gentleness - Story
A few years ago, I met a woman named Ruth at a community center where I volunteered. Ruth was known for her fiery spirit. Yet, behind that fierce exterior lay a heart burdened by her past. She had been deeply wounded by betrayal and was struggling to forgive those who had hurt her.
One day, while I was preparing for a Bible study on Ephesians 2:8-9, I came across the phrase, "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God." I felt a gentle nudge in my spirit to share this with Ruth. So, I invited her for coffee, hoping to find the right moment.
As we sipped our drinks, I started to speak about grace. I described it as a soft blanket that envelops us, reminding us that we are not alone in our struggles. I mentioned how forgiveness isn’t just a gift we give to others but a profound gift to ourselves. In that moment, I saw Ruth’s walls begin to crack.
With tears in her eyes, she admitted that she had been clinging to her anger, thinking it would protect her. Instead, it was suffocating her. As we prayed together, I encouraged her to let go and embrace gentleness—not just towards others, but towards herself.
