The Power of Patience - Story
In a small village, there lived an elderly woman named Miriam. Known for her unwavering faith and gentle spirit, she often shared stories of God’s faithfulness. One chilly autumn evening, as leaves danced in the wind, she sat in her garden, troubled by the uncertainty of her future.
Miriam had been waiting for several months for the return of her son, who was serving overseas. Each day, she would pray, holding onto Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Yet doubts began to creep in, whispering the worst possibilities.
One afternoon, as she tended to her roses, a neighbor named Samuel came by. He noticed her apprehension and asked, “Miriam, why the long face?” She sighed, “I’m worried about my son. It feels like I’m losing faith as the days stretch on.”
Samuel, a farmer, replied, “Do you see those seeds I planted last spring?” He pointed to a flourishing garden. “They didn’t bloom overnight. I watered them, cared for them, and waited. Patience is a part of growth, Miriam, just like faith.”
