The Quiet Repair

In 2015, Swedish scientist Tomas Lindahl shared the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for a discovery that had puzzled researchers for decades. He proved that every single cell in your body sustains tens of thousands of DNA lesions every day. Ultraviolet light, metabolic byproducts, simple chemical decay — the damage is relentless and unavoidable. By all rights, our genetic code should collapse into chaos within hours.

But it does not. Lindahl discovered that our cells carry an elaborate repair system — specialized enzymes that patrol the DNA strand like tireless watchmen, snipping out damaged sections, filling in gaps, restoring what was broken. This happens billions of times a day across your body, silently, faithfully, without ceasing.

Here is what strikes me about that. Perseverance is not the absence of damage. It never has been. The Apostle Paul knew this when he wrote, "We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair." The life of faith does not promise freedom from breakage. It promises repair.

The God who engineered restoration into every cell of your body is the same God who promises to renew your strength when you wait upon Him. El Shaddai, the Almighty, did not design you to be unbreakable. He designed you to be repairable — and then He appointed Himself as the One who does the mending.

The damage is real. But the repair is relentless. Keep going.
