The Relentless Repair Within You

In 2015, Swedish scientist Tomas Lindahl shared the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for a discovery that had puzzled researchers for decades. He found that human DNA is astonishingly fragile. Every single day, each cell in your body sustains somewhere between ten thousand and one hundred thousand points of damage — from sunlight, from oxidation, from the simple chemistry of being alive.

That should be catastrophic. By all rights, we should fall apart.

But Lindahl discovered something remarkable: built into every cell is an army of repair enzymes that work around the clock, scanning the double helix for breaks and errors, snipping out the damage, and stitching the strand back together. They never stop. They never take a day off. Before you finish reading this sentence, billions of tiny restorations have already taken place inside you.

You were made — down to your molecular foundation — for repair. For recovery. For getting back up.

The Apostle Paul knew nothing of DNA, but he understood this truth in his bones. "We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; struck down, but not destroyed" (2 Corinthians 4:8-9). The damage is real. Paul never pretended otherwise. But the God who encoded restoration into every cell of your body is the same God who promises to renew you day by day.

You may feel broken this morning. But the One who designed you for repair is already at work.
