The Repair Written Into Our Cells

In 2015, Swedish scientist Tomas Lindahl shared the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for a discovery that changed how we understand life itself. For decades, researchers assumed DNA was rock-solid and stable. Lindahl proved otherwise. He demonstrated that every single day, each cell in your body suffers tens of thousands of breaks, mutations, and chemical injuries to its DNA. Tens of thousands — in every cell.

But here is what stopped the scientific world cold: we do not fall apart. Lindahl and his colleagues discovered that God wove an elaborate repair system into the very architecture of our cells. Enzymes patrol the double helix like tireless sentinels, snipping out damaged segments, stitching in fresh nucleotides, restoring what was broken — thousands of times a day, without our ever knowing.

Think about that. The Creator did not design a world where damage would never happen. He designed a world where restoration is built into the fabric of existence.

Forgiveness works the same way. When someone wounds us — or when we wound someone else — the damage is real. We are not pretending it did not happen. But the God who encoded repair into every living cell also offers repair for the human soul. His forgiveness does not deny the break. It mends it at the deepest level.
