The Repair You Never Feel

In 2015, Swedish scientist Tomas Lindahl shared the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for a discovery that had puzzled him for decades. He found that every single day, each cell in your body sustains tens of thousands of hits to its DNA. Radiation, toxins, even the ordinary act of metabolism damages the very code that holds you together. By all rights, we should fall apart.

But we do not. Because built into every cell is a repair system so elegant, so relentless, that it finds the damage and mends it before you ever know it was there. Lindahl called it base excision repair. Your body is being silently restored thousands of times a day, at a level too small to see and too constant to feel.

That is how grace works.

Long before you noticed the fracture in your spirit, the Holy One was already at work. Before you named the sin, before you formed the prayer, before the guilt even registered, God was mending what was torn. His grace does not wait for your awareness. It does not require your permission. It moves at the molecular level of the soul, in places you cannot reach and wounds you did not know you carried.

Paul wrote that where sin increased, grace increased all the more. Not because grace is reactive, but because it was already there, already repairing, already making you whole again from the inside out.
