The Repair You Never Knew Was Happening

Every hour of every day, the DNA inside each of your cells sustains thousands of molecular injuries — damage from sunlight, from oxygen, from the simple act of being alive. By all rights, we should fall apart. But we don't.

In 2015, Swedish scientist Tomas Lindahl shared the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for discovering something astonishing: our cells contain tiny molecular machines that patrol the spiraling ladder of our DNA, detecting breaks and errors, and quietly repairing them before we ever feel a thing. Lindahl estimated that without this constant, silent repair work, our genetic code would collapse into chaos within hours.

You never asked for it. You never earned it. You were not even aware it was happening. And yet, while you slept, while you worked, while you worried about a hundred other things, a grace was at work in the hidden architecture of your body, holding you together.

This is what the grace of God looks like. Long before you knew you were broken, He was already mending. Long before you called out for help, the Healer was at work in the hidden places. As Paul wrote to the church in Rome, "Where sin increased, grace increased all the more."

You do not have to understand grace for it to save you. You do not have to feel it for it to hold you together. It was at work before you woke up this morning, and it will be at work long after you lay your head down tonight. That is the relentless, quiet, unearned repair of God.
