The Righteous Shall Shine Forth as the Sun
Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father (Matthew 13:43). The parable of the wheat and tares reveals a profound truth: the beauty of the righteous man remains hidden in the present age. Wheat and tares grow indistinguishably together; the golden grain carries within it only the germ of its future glory, veiled beneath ordinary appearance.
Why this concealment? First, true righteousness requires the denial of self-righteousness and the acceptance of Christ's righteousness—a paradox that necessitates hiddenness. Our faith is cradled in tears and strengthened by storms. Second, the discipline perfecting the righteous involves trials that obscure their glory. The world perceives no beauty in the crown of thorns.
Yet this concealment shall pass away. The silent growth of faith secretly forms the image of the heavenly within the soul. We cannot now read the Divine tracery inscribed by sorrow's hand, nor comprehend how life's discipline fits the soul for future fruition. When our dying friends expire, we perceive only failing humanity—not the Christlike nature grown within them through hushed endurance of pain and unwavering faith amid darkness.
But as the flower bursts forth in beauty from its concealment in the seed, so shall the righteous ripen in the sunlight of Christ's smile. That veil shall be removed. Royal souls, now invisible to mortal eyes, shall shine with radiance exceeding all present misery. The heavenly compensation awaits those who endure.
