The Ring You Were Meant to Carry

Deep in the Mines of Moria, surrounded by darkness and danger, Frodo Baggins turns to Gandalf with words that echo what so many of us have felt. "I wish the Ring had never come to me," he says. "I wish none of this had happened." In that moment in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Frodo is exhausted, afraid, and overwhelmed by a calling he never asked for. Gandalf's reply is one of the most profound lines in cinema: "So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

Frodo didn't choose his purpose. He didn't raise his hand and volunteer for the hardest journey in Middle-earth. The task found him. And that is exactly how the Almighty so often works. Moses didn't apply for the job at the burning bush. Jeremiah protested that he was too young. Esther never imagined she'd stand between her people and annihilation.

Your purpose may not feel like a gift. It may feel heavy, uncertain, even impossible. But the God who entrusted it to you is the same God who walks beside you through every shadow. You were not chosen by accident. You don't have to understand the whole journey — you simply have to decide what to do with the time you've been given.
