The Save You Never Earned

If you have ever worked in Google Docs, you have noticed something remarkable: there is no save button. The moment you begin typing, the system starts saving your work — silently, automatically, without being asked. You do not earn it. You do not schedule it. You do not even have to think about it. And when your laptop crashes mid-sentence or your internet cuts out during a storm, you open that document again and discover that every word has been preserved. Not because you were diligent, but because the system was faithful.

Google's engineers designed Docs this way on purpose. They understood something about human nature — that we forget, that we get distracted, that we lose track of what matters most. So they built a system that saves continuously, not based on our remembering, but based on its own relentless commitment to preserving what we have created.

Grace works like that. Paul writes in Ephesians 2:8, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God." We did not click save. We could not have. Grace was already running in the background before we even knew we needed it — preserving us, holding our story, refusing to let a single chapter be lost.

You do not have to earn God's save. It is already running.
