The Search That Knows You Better Than You Know Yourself
Every time you type a question into Google, something remarkable happens behind the scenes. Google's PageRank algorithm — originally developed by Larry Page and Sergey Brin in a Stanford garage in 1996 — doesn't just find pages that match your words. It evaluates which pages were created to serve a specific purpose and does that purpose well. Pages that try to be everything to everyone get buried. Pages that fulfill their unique purpose with excellence rise to the top.
Here is what stopped me cold when I learned this: the algorithm rewards specificity of purpose. A webpage about sourdough bread that commits fully to teaching you sourdough bread will always outrank a generic cooking page that mentions sourdough once in passing. The algorithm can tell the difference between a page that knows what it was made for and a page that is wandering.
God designed you with the same principle. You were not created to be a generic, do-everything, please-everyone human being. Ephesians 2:10 says you are "God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for you to do." Not someone else's good works. Yours.
The world will try to make you a generic page. But the Creator who knit you together already optimized you for a specific calling. Stop trying to rank for everyone else's keywords. Lean into the purpose He wrote into your code before you ever went live.
