The Sick Man's Prayer: Four Stages of Divine Healing
Consider the progression of a desperately ill man who approaches Adonai for restoration. First, he remembers the medicine—the Word of Elohim that he has treasured, now becoming his sustenance in affliction. Like a patient who recalls the physician's earlier counsel, the sufferer draws upon Scripture memorized in healthier days, finding its power renewed in his present distress.
Second, he sends for the physician. This is prayer itself—the urgent summons to Yahweh, casting aside all pride and self-reliance. The sick man admits his utter inability to heal himself and cries out for divine intervention.
Third comes the physician's careful consideration. Adonai does not rush; He examines the patient's condition thoroughly. The delay tests faith but demonstrates wisdom. God sees not merely the surface wound but the deep spiritual infection requiring treatment.
Finally, healing is wrought. Not always immediately, but sovereignly. The cure comes through the Great Physician's own hand—sometimes swift, sometimes gradual, but always certain when Elohim determines it.
