The Signal That Refused to Go Silent
In 1977, NASA launched Voyager 1 carrying a computer with just 69 kilobytes of memory — less than a single photograph on your phone. The mission was supposed to last five years. It is still transmitting today, nearly fifty years later, from over fifteen billion miles away in interstellar space.
The journey has not been easy. One by one, instruments have failed. Power from its generators drops a little more each year. Engineers have shut off heaters, cameras, and backup systems just to keep the essential science running. Every few years, someone suggests it is finally done. And every time, the team finds one more creative workaround to coax a little more life from that ancient machine. Its signal, faint as a whisper, still reaches Earth — taking over twenty-two hours to arrive.
The apostle Paul knew something about fading power and long journeys. "We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair" (2 Corinthians 4:8). He understood that perseverance is not about maintaining full strength. It is about continuing to transmit when everything in you says the distance is too great.
You may feel like your power is running low, like the best of what you had to offer is behind you. But God does not need you at full capacity. He needs you faithful. Keep transmitting. The signal still matters.
