The Soul Full Cannot Taste the Honeycomb
When appetite and food meet together, blessing follows. Yet luxurious indulgence destroys appetite altogether. This principle governs both body and spirit: we lose taste for what satisfies us to excess.
Jesus Christ is Himself sweeter than honeycomb. He is the incarnation of Divine love—God's love made manifest. He embodies boundless mercy to sinners and love to all creatures. His name breathes celestial hope to believers. His very presence makes heaven what it is.
Yet many loathe this sweetness. Some trample Him; others murmur perpetually; still others remain utterly indifferent. This loathing reveals itself through small signs—a soul gorged on the world, outward religiousness, or pride.
The tragic irony: a man may possess immense spiritual riches yet taste nothing. One may own a priceless library of truth and remain indifferent to knowledge itself. But he who possesses scarcest fare yet hungers for truth knows greater blessing than the satiated soul surrounded by abundance.
To appreciate Christ, you must first feel your want. Pray for appetite for Him—genuine spiritual hunger. When that appetite awakens, guard it fiercely. Waste it not upon lesser sweetness. The man with one book and burning desire to know truth surpasses the owner of endless volumes with no appetite for their contents. The sated soul despises honeycomb; the hungry soul tastes heaven.
