Then, on September 14, 2015 — ninety-nine years after Einstein's prediction — LIGO captured a signal that lasted two-tenths of a second. Two black holes, a billion light-years away, had spiraled into each other, and the faintest whisper of that collision finally reached us.
Sometimes the most profound confirmations come only after the longest waiting.
