The Sound You Cannot Escape
In 1965, two radio astronomers at Bell Labs — Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson — could not figure out why their antenna kept picking up a persistent, low hum. They cleaned pigeon droppings from the dish. They recalibrated their instruments. They pointed the antenna in every direction. The hum remained.
What they had stumbled upon was the cosmic microwave background radiation — the faint afterglow of creation itself, filling every cubic centimeter of the universe. It was everywhere. It had always been there. They simply had not recognized it.
Grace works the same way.
We try everything to explain away that quiet persistence of God's love. We blame circumstances. We recalibrate our understanding. We point our lives in every direction. And still, grace hums.
It is not something we have to go find. It is not waiting in a particular place or reserved for a particular kind of person. Like that cosmic background radiation, the grace of El Shaddai saturates everything. It was there before you woke up this morning. It will be there when you lay your head down tonight. It fills the spaces you have written off as empty.
Penzias and Wilson won the Nobel Prize for discovering what had been present all along. You do not need a prize. You just need to stop trying to explain it away — and listen.
