The Source Code of Grace

In 1993, a British computer scientist named Tim Berners-Lee faced a decision that would shape the modern world. He had invented the World Wide Web — the system of links, browsers, and pages that now connects billions of people. His employer, CERN, could have patented the technology. Berners-Lee could have become the wealthiest person on earth, charging licensing fees every time someone opened a webpage.

Instead, he gave it away. On April 30, 1993, CERN released the World Wide Web into the public domain — free for anyone, anywhere, forever. No gatekeepers. No subscription fees. No restrictions. Berners-Lee later said he knew the web would only reach its potential if it belonged to everyone.

That decision mirrors something far more ancient and far more costly. Paul writes in Galatians 5:1, "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free." The freedom God offers through Christ was never meant to be licensed, rationed, or locked behind a paywall of human performance. It was released freely — not because it cost nothing, but because Someone else paid the price in full.

Berners-Lee gave away his invention so the world could connect. The Almighty gave His Son so the world could be free. And just as the open web transformed how humanity communicates, the open grace of God transforms how we live — unburdened, unchained, and unrestricted by the weight of what we could never earn on our own.

That kind of freedom is not just available. It is already yours.
