The Spirit's Cry: Adoption and the Indwelling of Elohim's Spirit
Galatians 4:6 announces a threefold reality of Christian sonship. First, adoption grants believers the huiothesia (legal status of sons), while regeneration grants the nature of children—we possess both through faith. This sonship is grace received by faith alone: faith brings justification, liberation from the law's bondage, and marks all who possess it. Adoption comes through redemption; we now enjoy the privilege of mature sonship, not as infants but as teknon (full-grown children).
Second, the Father sends the Spirit of His Son into believers' hearts. This is a Divine act of possession—the Spirit takes up residence in the central fortress of our nature, occupying the whole. This indwelling produces marvellous results: peace, joy, nearness to Yahweh, fellowship with Him, trust, love, reverence, obedience, and actual likeness to Elohim.
Third, the filial cry (abba, intimate cry) emerges from within. It is the Spirit Himself crying, literally the cry of the Son resonating through believers. This cry, though earnest and sincere, dwells chiefly within the heart—invisible yet powerful. At all times and places, we lift our hearts in supplication to Adonai. Through adoption, Elohim grants us a new nature, new name, new inheritance, new relations, and new hope—the inheritance of sons and heirs of Elohim Himself.
