The Spirit's Voice and the Church's Character
"Hear what the Spirit saith unto the Churches" (Revelation 1:22). The Spirit speaking to the Church reveals three foundational truths: First, certain great moral elements alone determine the character of individuals or communities. These are not external trappings but the substance of holy living. Second, in proportion to the depth and vitality of holy character will be the struggle with error and with evil. Spiritual maturity does not bring ease—it brings earnest conflict. Third, the rewards and honours of the heavenly state will be determined by the struggles and conquests of earth.
The visible Churches face five solemn warnings. To those living only for the world: you are enemies to Christ, though you may not know it. To formalists and the self-righteous: examine your faith, your evidences of a new heart, the work of the Spirit within you. To careless Church members: beware lest you trifle your souls into hell. To those seeking salvation: do not content yourselves with the world's standard of religion. To professing believers in the Lord Jesus: do not be content with a little religion.
The Spirit's call demands not mere assent but transformation—a character shaped by Elohim's moral absolutes, refined through earthly struggle, and crowned with heavenly reward.
