The Step Into Nothing
In Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, there is a scene that has stayed with moviegoers for decades. Indiana Jones stands at the edge of a bottomless chasm inside an ancient temple. His father is dying from a gunshot wound, and the only hope is the Holy Grail, waiting somewhere on the other side. His father's journal offers one cryptic instruction: a leap of faith.
Indy looks down. There is no bridge. There is no rope. There is nothing but empty air and a fall that would kill him. Every instinct screams to step back. But he closes his eyes, whispers those words — "It's a leap of faith" — and lifts his foot over the abyss.
His boot lands on solid stone. A bridge was there all along, painted to match the canyon walls, invisible to the eye but strong enough to hold him.
That scene mirrors what the Almighty asks of us. Hebrews 11:1 tells us that faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. God never promises we will see the bridge before we step. He promises the bridge will be there when we do.
Some of you are standing at the edge of your own chasm right now — a diagnosis, a broken relationship, a future you cannot see. The Lord is not asking you to understand the path. He is asking you to take the step.
