The Step That Found Solid Ground
In Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, there is a moment that has stayed with audiences for decades. Indiana Jones stands at the edge of a vast chasm, hundreds of feet deep, with no visible bridge and no way across. His father is dying. The ancient diary in his hand says only this: "a leap of faith." Everything Indy can see tells him that stepping forward means falling to his death. But his father needs him. So he closes his eyes, lifts his foot, and steps into empty air.
His boot lands on solid stone. A bridge has been there all along — perfectly camouflaged against the canyon wall behind it, invisible until the weight of his body proved it real.
This is what faith looks like in the life of a believer. The writer of Hebrews tells us that faith is "the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." It is not a feeling. It is not certainty. It is a decision to step forward when every visible circumstance says there is nothing beneath you.
The Almighty does not ask us to leap because He enjoys watching us tremble at the edge. He asks because the bridge is already there. He built it before we ever arrived at the chasm. Our step does not create the path — it simply reveals what God has provided all along.
What canyon are you standing at the edge of this morning? Take the step. The ground is there.
