The Sun That Never Sets: Heaven's Eternal Light
Isaiah 58:20 promises a world where darkness ends: "Thy sun shall no more go down." In our present existence, light comes through intermediary sources—reason, creation, other people—but never directly from Elohim. In heaven, every intermediary dissolves. Jesus becomes the Sun Himself, shining immediately upon all inhabitants.
The natural sun exhibits three elemental rays: red, yellow, and blue, composing all visible light. Similarly, the heavenly light displays a trinity of characteristics. First, the continuous ray: "Thy sun shall no more go down, neither shall thy moon withdraw itself." The cycle of rising and setting—that fundamental rhythm of earthly existence—ceases entirely. Second, the perpetual ray: "An everlasting light." This distinguishes between seasonal continuity and endless duration. A light may shine continuously for a season yet remain temporary; heaven's light knows no terminus. Third, the joyous ray: "The days of thy mourning shall be ended." This light brings not mere illumination but gladness.
Four things Scripture symbolizes by light await us: knowledge (Psalm 119:130), holiness (Romans 13:12), happiness (Psalm 97:11), and beauty or glory (John 17:24). On earth, we perceive beauty only through borrowed radiance. In heaven, every beauty, every truth, every joy flows directly from Christ, the unfailing Sun whose light admits no shadow, no setting, no diminishment.
