The Technology and Human Connection Challenge
In a world dominated by screens and social media, the quest for genuine human connection often feels like navigating a vast, uncharted ocean. Picture a bustling café where people sit alone, each one absorbed in their device, scrolling through curated snippets of life, yet longing for a deep conversation. It’s a striking contrast to the communal gatherings of the past, where stories were shared face-to-face, laughter echoed, and hearts were knit together in moments of vulnerability.
Hebrews 13:2 calls us to “not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels.” This verse challenges us to look beyond our screens and engage with the people around us—those we might overlook in our daily routines. Just last week, I witnessed a poignant example of this. A young woman entered the café and, rather than retreating into her phone, she noticed an elderly man sitting alone. With genuine warmth, she smiled and asked how he was doing. Their conversation blossomed from simple pleasantries into a rich dialogue about life’s challenges and joys. What began as a moment of connection transformed into a shared experience that brightened both their days.
In this digital age, we are called not only to connect but to cultivate relationships that reflect God's hesed—His steadfast love and kindness. Let us remember that each interaction holds the potential to be sacred, a space where heaven meets earth. By boldly stepping into these moments and embracing the humanity of those around us, we not only foster community but also embody the love of Christ in a world that desperately needs it.
