The Telescope That Took Twenty-Five Years to Find Its Place
In 2021, NASA launched the James Webb Space Telescope after twenty-five years of design, delays, and nearly being canceled. Engineers built it for one breathtaking purpose: to capture light from the earliest galaxies, light that had been traveling for over thirteen billion years. But here is what fascinates me. The telescope could not fulfill that purpose from just anywhere. It had to travel nearly a million miles from Earth to a precise point in space called Lagrange Point 2, where the gravitational pull of the sun and Earth hold it in perfect balance. Only from that exact position could its instruments do what they were made to do.
Some of you feel like you have been in transit for a long time. Years of preparation, seasons of waiting, moments when you wondered if God had forgotten the purpose He whispered into your spirit. You watched others launch and land while you were still unfolding, still calibrating.
But the Almighty does not waste a single year of your becoming. Jeremiah 29:11 tells us He knows the plans He has for you. Like that telescope, you were not built for just any position. You were crafted for a specific place where your gifts, your wounds, your story all come into focus.
The wait is not the opposite of purpose. Sometimes the wait is the journey to the only place your purpose works.
